I am actually going to be talking about this book, the reason for the title, the reason for the book and all that is in it.Hello, my name is Delight. I am a writer also known as Smiler, I am the author of the poetry anthology A DATE WITH DEATH.A date with death, is a text packed up with different feelings I as the writer passed through and some experiences from close friends too. Most people have asked me why I decided to give it such title but what can I do? What else can I use to describe near death experiences that we didn’t die from? How else do I envelope those feelings to an ordinary title. I don’t know, but then I still gave a name😊A date with death talks about experiences like rape, lack of love, abandonment (negligence in fact).People everyday, somehow, somewhere go through this and don’t know how to tell anyone as they feel they are going to be stigmatized by the society or even family. The sole aim of this book is to let them know they are not alone. Someone somewhere shares in your pain, I share in your pain and technically I am saying you are not alone in it. Just believe and hold on, you too would heal.

A collection of 15 poems, “A Date With Death” takes the reader on a dark walk through the murky pathways of the human mind. These poems explore the stormy waters of poor mental health and the struggles of grappling with everyday life when one is so listless.Using a wide range of literary devices such as metaphors, synaesthesia, imagery, among others, Smiler renders open the gates of a tortured mind for all to see and grasp (If they would).Almost all the poems in this collection will linger in the mind of the reader. But for me, the One is “One With Pain” the opening line: “If words came easy, silence would have screamed” Is one line I think I would always remember. This text is recommended for all lovers of poetry all all those interested in mental health. There is something about portraying emotions that gets people connected to a piece of art. This book has got it. Every word used evoked emotion in me as a reader.Personally, I used to dislike Poetry when I was younger because of it’s complexity. But, this book has effectively made me to see Poetry in a new and beautiful light. The writer did a good job with the way she effectively used her magical pen to connect with the soul of her reader – me. From the part titled ‘Birthday-Suit’, to ‘Colours of pain’, and the rest, I was wowed .This is an anthology that can bring out feelings in the coldest of persons, that can create a link between art and reality to the reader(s).A Date with Death is simply amazing. And amazing is always good. Review by ~ Akobundu Dorcas

Delight Olumati’s debut anthology, A Date With Death is rather… interesting. Somehow she bridged the distance between her poetry and persona. Using only a few lines, Smiler has been able to enter the minds of her reader, portraying ardently, their thoughts.
I loved Feelings, and Colours of Pain— they were first-hand experiences, like she was writing from my own thoughts. For every poem, I seemed to unlock newer explanations to how I felt, how I couldn’t speak.
Ultimately, Smiler has created an amazing anthology, with every poem befitting it’s position in the collection. Review by ~ Omoruyi Eseosa Naomi
